May 22-24 Tree Planting

May 22nd, 23rd and 24th were big Volunteer Days at Riverlot 56.

Over 600 one and two-year old spruce trees were planted over a three day period in the latter part of May. Some 30 students with teacher support came by bus on Friday afternoon from W.D. Cuts School to put in an hour and a half planting over 100 trees to start off this major volunteer initiative. Their work was impressive. Two of the ten planting areas were completed setting up the rest of the weekend.

On Saturday, around 20 volunteers made a huge contribution to the re-naturalization effort completing an additional six planting areas (over 300 trees) and illustrated that the initial task was possible. On Sunday, over a dozen additional participants showed up to complete the task and then take on an expanded planting not originally planned. In total, well over 600 trees are now in the ground.
